AN EXCERPT
(Social Entrepreneurship)
Mr. Daniel Philip Dy spearheaded the workshop. He is a graduate of Business Management in Ateneo de Naga University. The discussion of Mr. Dy was conventional in nature, which started with the presentation of theories and principles of social entrepreneurship, then it progressed to retelling of their experiences, and finally it capped with a small open forum. The discussion started with a quote from Bill Drayton, “Social entrepreneurs are not content just to give a fish or teach how to fish. They will not rest until they have revolutionized the fishing industry.”
ON THE THEORY OF SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Mr. Dy emphasized that the practice of Social Entrepreneurship is a process of maintaining a balance between Business Sustainability and Advocacy Work.
ON THE PRINCIPLES OF SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP
1. It should address a social issue (people)
2. It is financially sustainable (profit)
3. It is environmentally-conscious (earth)
4. It is one that is equally important to the other (business and charity)
“There is so much Filipino ingenuity that we have yet to appreciate.”
